Bahubali – The conclusion has become the biggest movie from India grossing over Rs. 1000 crores world over. Estimates say that it is going to be the first movie raking up over Rs. 1000 crores from India itself.
It is definitely great entertainment and hit the right chord with a large populace.
It is groundbreaking since it will force several in the film making community to rethink movies.
And finally, it has got us to speak of a movie from India and not just a Bollywood, Tollywood or Kollywood production.
Now, this post is not a movie review. Neither do I wish to tell you what was in the movie or what you can learn from the movie. Enough has been said on that and more will come.
Well, for me the project Bahubali has proved a very different point. It is not what is in the movie but it comes out what it took to make the movie.
There is one single word to describe it all – commitment.
This movie has called for unparalleled commitment, dedication, focus from a large part of its crew.
It is heard that the lead actor Prabhas gave full 5 years to this 2 part movie. He did not take up any other movie project. Imagine an actor not doing any other movie for 5 loooonnggg years. This is a industry where if you are out of sight you are out of mind.
The director SS Rajamouli is the visionary behind it and gave the movie everything. The producers too backed the vision with their commitment.
As one of the write-ups on the movie mentioned that at a time when most movies are wrapped in a few months, this one created a new milestone of ‘shot over a few years’.
This simply could not have been possible without a 100% commitment.
Unfortunately, commitment is the thing we lack in our endeavours today.
We keep hopping from channel to channel, book to book, app to app, job to job, relationship to relationship with no commitment. We look for results without the required effort. We can’t wait.
How can I not mention investments? What is our commitment to our investments? Almost nil. We are forever chasing returns. The next minute, next day, next month, quarter or year – our eyes are glued to the ticker, trying to find the next blockbuster.
But Bahubali tells us how do we reach a real big blockbuster. Money is only one part of the deal. The real inputs are sheer commitment, discipline and hard work spread over time.
There are no shortcuts indeed.
If Bahubali as a project stands for commitment, our behaviour, our constant predicament and shortsightedness, our constant state of commotion is aptly described by the word “Khalbali”.
The movie has showed the way. Let the KHALBALI go and BAHUBALI take over. Who knows you will find your blockbuster too.
It is not Bahubali vs Bhallaladeva. It is Bahubali vs You.
What say?
